Project

The NPL Nature Photo Labyrinth project

The NPL – Nature Photo Labyrinth project is an Erasmus Plus – KA2 Small Scale Partnership in Youth project under the Horizontal priority of Environment and Flight against Climate Change. The project is a collaboration between Exilio Studio, Finland and Youth in Science and Business Foundation (YSBF), Estonia. The project will go on for 16 months and help enhance people’s knowledge about nature and causes of climate change through innovative game-based learning experience.

Knowledge about nature and causes of climate change is very low in many parts of our society, and also among younger generation. Introducing knowledge about climate change and inducing appreciation for nature among younge rgeneration is more beneficial, as adults learn with children too. According to child psychology studies, children learn more effectively while playing and through games, so it is quite logical to use games to educate children about climate change - this is what our Nature Photo Labyrinth Project (NPL) is all about.

Game-Based Learning (GBL) is an educational strategy that makes use of games, in digital or board or other formats.

Students can engage with instructional content and subjects in a dynamic, entertaining, and playful way thanks to the motivating psychology incorporated into game-based learning. GBL combines educational content with computer or video games and may be applied to nearly all disciplines and skill levels. GBL involves activities that can range from completing very simple tasks to the development of intricate problem-solving skills. Digital game-based learning has the ability to stimulate and inspire students, provide personalized learning opportunities, and enhance long-term memory and practical experience.

The photos on the topic of climate change and nature will allow students to appreciate the beauty of nature and see the changes that are occurring due to damages caused because of global warming. In addition, the inclusion of photos will act as a part of the educational strategy, as photos are a form of visual learning.  In visual learning the ideas, concepts, facts, and other information are linked to pictures and processes.

The combination of GBL and visual learning in form of innovative Nature Photo Labyrinth tools will help in delivering educational content more effectively. Further, the incorporation of the learning theories will greatly benefit and enhance the learning process of the students.
